Individual Contributions to this Course and the Field - 30%

As this course progresses students will be requiring and collecting a variety of information on the internet. This assignment creates the opportunity to share the acquired knowledge and resources. It also allows students to request information from each other by submitting to the instructor an item for any of the types of contributions below.

Each response will be handed in as a webpage with supporting internet links. The responses will be added to the class website. Each task is given a percentage. Combine them for a total of 30 marks.

1. Annotated Lists (10%) - Create an annotated list on one of the topics below. The list should include 7 to 10 hotlinks, each with a brief description of the resource. Refer to more than one type of internet resource e.g. websites, listservs and news groups. Keep in mind that the lists are aimed at teachers and students, and look for ways to make the list relevant to them, for example, relevant to the social studies and other school curricula: critical thinking, citizenship, or thematic strands. The format of your page should be consistent with the class website. Consult with the website management team for these details. For a further 10%, turn your search and list efforts into a tutorial. See Tutorials.

Evaluation Criteria for the annotated lists.

Curriculum Laboratory Internet Connections (CLIC) - A useful place to go for other teaching ideas and conections.

The Kids on the Web: Educational Sites - Sample of an annotated list.

Suggested Topics for Lists

2. Tutorials (20%) - Put together and present a tutorial for the class on one of these topics/questions. You will have up to five minutes to present or demonstrate the tutorial. Include an annotated list as described above.

3. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Board for this Course (20%) - Set-up and maintain a FAQ Board for the class website. This assignment can be done in a small group (3 to 5) and requires on-going input and dialogue with the class. Perhaps use the class listserv as a way to collect FAQs and answers.

4. Course Website Management (20%) - Set-up (with the instructor) the class site file management system and manage the addition of new files to the class website. This assignment can be done in a small group (3 to 5) and requires on-going input and dialogue with the class.
