This collection of freeware spans grade levels and subject areas (titles are not limited to education, but span other topics as well). One word of caution: There are no ability level descriptors attached to the software. You will have to download the software first to see if it is age appropriate.

Ziff Davis Network (ZDNet) is a major contributer to the demonstration software distribution network. This site offers a number of programs, both for educators and students. ZDNet applies a 5 star rating scale for its software downloads. Age levels are not specified.
Another teacher made site which sports a plethora of invaluable science related links to other websites and software.
Teacher created site which focuses on high school science. The links on this site not only take you to a software download page, but provides a number of teacher resources for the (American) high school science curriculum.
This site caters more to social studies than any other subject area. Quite a few programs for geography, languages, and religion are available. The programs descriptions do not indicate grade or age level appropriateness.
Softseek allows one to search through it’s database (or use topics) to find suitable programs. Each program listed has it’s own description. Grade/age levels are not specified, however, one can get a pretty good idea from the descriptions provided.
In addtion to Educational software, this site offers programs in the area of graphics, programming, multimedia, business, and games. Freeware and Shareware programs are available for direct download. Program descriptions and number of downloads are provided, however, age/grade level appropriateness are not.
This is probably the best site out of this list. A HUGE list of programs are available and all are sorted by age level appropriateness. There are even tools for teachers!! Descriptions are provided, however, they are relatively sparse.
This site has listings of all the available educational software for all computer platforms. It is not a site from which you can download software, but rather research it and determine whether or not it is worth buying. Products which have received a Teacher’s Choice Award are highlighted.
This site boasts a good number of educational games. Games are listed alphabetically, so some browsing is necessary. The load time of the webpages is long and can be attributed to the multiple animated gif’s and embedded MIDI files on the site.
