Art & Architecture

Students may visit any of the Ancient Greece sties listed below or on any other page to complete the following suggested activities.

Activity #1: Design Your Own Temple

Visit these sites to help you research various temples. You will need to have a knowledge of their styles, purposes, location, and significance in daily life. Using this knowledge, design one for yourself using either a drawing program, clay, or a pencil and paper. Explain its various features and why you designed it that way.

Activity #2: Be an Archaeologist

While looking through these sites, think about the following questions:

What kinds of things did Greek artists represent in their work?

What are some similarities and differences among the works (ie. colour, texture, style. . . )?

What clues do these works give us about other aspects of life in Ancient Greece?

Now take on the role of an archaeologist and write a letter to someone who is interested in becoming one. Tell him or her about all the things which can be learned from studying Ancient Greek pottery and artifacts.

1. The Acropolis

Acropolis Museum

The Perseus Project

Go to to find out more about the Acropolis. There is also mention here of the Parthenon. I suggest taking a walking tour, especially the 3rd one, but you can also do a flyby tour which is not as detailed and takes a long time to load. Also play the game if you want!

2. The Parthenon
