Activity 1:
Partner Tag
Warm up for Track and Field, Territorial Games, Net/Wall Games |
Objective:
Everybody finds a partner. Up to 4 people can be chasers, depending on class size and intensity desired If your numbers don’t work, have the odd person out be a chaser as well. In order not to get caught by the chaser, you must stand side by side with someone. If a group of two is already standing together, you run to them and stand beside one person in that pair and the outside person is bumped off and has to try to find a new partner before getting caught. If you are tagged, you become the chaser. |

X= runner |
Area: To begin, use half of a basketball court while the game allows walking only. As the game progresses to a run, the area of play can be extended. In keeping the area small, an emphasis on quick movement and change of direction is achieved. This is a good basis for net/wall movement patterns. |
Activity 2:
Pip, Squeak and Bubble
Warm up for gymnastics. |
Equipment:
bean bags Objective: Arrange students in groups of 3, organized around in lines around a circle, name each person—A-Pip, B-Squeak, C-Bubble. If you have an odd person out, form a group of 4 and call him/her the Wild Card, or have that person be the caller. Place the bean bags in the center of the circle, leaving enough bean bags for all groups but one (e.g. if there are 6 groups, use 5 bags). The caller shouts out one of the three names (Pip, Squeak, Bubble or wild card, when any one player from a group can go—this accounts for the odd group of 4). When name is called, that player jumps up and runs counter clockwise around the circle until returning to his/her group. The player must then crawl under the front support tunnel that the group is creating to grab a bean bag. The team who is unable to get a bean bag is eliminated and has to participate in the next activity. |
A: Organization of class. B: Front support tunnel by A=Pip, B=Squeak, C=Bubble. D=Wild Card who crawls through tunnel to get bean bag. |
Elimination
Activity: Leap Frog. Objective: In order to keep eliminated students active, have them play leap frog around the outer perimeter of the Pip, Squeak and Bubble game. Have the students modify this activity by manipulating the leap frog game into a follow the leader type game where one person leads the group in an action (e.g. doing a full turn in between leaping) for one time around the circle, then rotate leading role. As more groups become eliminated, more players will enter the leap frog/ follow the leader game. |
