Practice parterre position with partner on top

  • Passive defence to ensure correct positioning
  • Active defence (bottom person trying to get away)
Bottom person should be in proper parterre position on the balls of the feet, butt down, and hands a little wider than shoulder width apart in a stable position. Top partner should have their hands on the back of the bottom person, be on one knee and one foot, and have their body weight on the bottom person. Have each partner practice being on the top and on the bottom a couple of time. Use cues to ensure that both partners are in the correct positions while on top and on the bottom.

  • Passive defence to ensure correct positioning
  • Active defence

Top person:

  • Place left hand on the back of head and push down towards the ground
  • Reach right arm underneath their right arm and place right hand on back of head.
Practice getting into the half nelson position from the prone position as quick as possible 5 times. Switch partners and have the other person try the same thing.

Practice the entire half nelson using the body and the hand positions from the prone position:

  • Passive defence
  • Active defence

Top person:

  • After the hand positions are done, bring your chest level with the side of the bottom person, and use your entire body to push the person at a 45 degree angle.
  • Once they are on the ground, continue your arm around to scoop the head, and finish chest to chest.
Practice the entire half nelson technique from the prone position 5 times. Switch partners and have the other person do the same thing.

  • With free had reach under their body and grab their opposite arm above the elbow
  • Post the arm and drive them over at a 45 degree angle with your chest on their side
  • Once they are broken down you finish the same as above.
Practice the half nelson technique from the parterre position 5 times. Switch partners and have the other person do the same thing.
