Lifelong Learning
Our Faculty of Education is perhaps best understood as a Faculty of Lifelong Learning. Lifelong learning implies that learning occurs throughout ones life from birth until literally the last breath one takes. Learning in this sense is life long. We also are beginning to understand learning as life wide . By life wide we mean that learning happens in different spheres of human activity: in formal educational settings; in our places of work; in our roles as citizens; as part of community or social action; or as part of personal or even spiritual development. Lifelong learning in our Faculty at the University of Victoria is seen through the provision of programs which support early childhood education, teaching and learning in the school systems, learning and music and the arts, learning and human movement, learning and technology, adult learning, leadership and learning, learning through counseling practices, Aboriginal ways of learning and many other ways. Learning is the thread of creativity, energy and meaning-making which runs throughout our lives. The support of learning in the home, the community, the school or the workplace is the goal of our Faculty. Learning for democratic citizenship, for global peace and understanding, for sustainable communities with good jobs and learning for the world we want is what we are all about. Back to Navigation |
