In 2007 and 2008 UVic placed first out of the 11 comprehensive universities that participated in the annual Maclean's magazine rankings of Canadian universities. UVic placed second in its category in the amount of medical and science grants it attracts, and also scored high for its overall ability to attract research funding, support for its libraries and support for scholarships and bursaries.

Inspired Teaching
Though we have one of the largest faculties at UVic, we believe in meeting the individual needs of each student. We take great pride in knowing our students' names and providing an intimate learning environment. Nearly half of our faculty members have joined us during the past five years, and during that short time, five of these new faculty members and two sessional instructors have been recognized for teaching excellence. In other words, we don't just tell you how to teach - we demonstrate it.

Support, Experience, Relevance
To give you the support you need to transform your education into a successful teaching career, we provide extensive practical experience, supported by an exceptional team of mentor teachers – most of them considered master-teachers in their school districts - and faculty supervisors. A 2004 survey of graduates from our programs by the Presidents' Council of BC found that two years after graduation, 84% were already in full time work. 93% of graduates since 1998 said their program had been relevant to their current job.
Innovative Research
Our faculty supports a dynamic mix of researchers who generate theoretical and applied knowledge with local, national and international significance.
