We offer undergraduate and graduate degrees that will help you guide, inspire, and lead the students you teach. Admission to any of our programs requires at least one year of university-level course work. We encourage you to enter another faculty at the University of Victoria and then apply to transfer.

Graduates of teacher education programs at the University of Victoria are professionals who

Aboriginal Education
In partnership with Aboriginal communities, we have developed programs for Aboriginal students that reflect Aboriginal cultural and historical perspectives. Creating new programming that is inclusive and representative of Aboriginal people’s heritage and concerns is an ongoing focus for the university as a whole, and for our faculty, staff and students. Become an Elementary School Teacher
Our elementary teacher education programs will give you the knowledge and skills you need to be a general classroom teacher for students in kindergarten to grade 7. Courses have been designed to be engaging, relevant and practical and to give you a comprehensive introduction to all the subjects you will be required to teach. You can study on-campus here in Victoria, or in Cranbrook, BC.
When you have completed either the Bachelor of Education (Elementary Curriculum) Program or the Post-Degree Professional Program (Elementary), you will be eligible for a BC teaching certificate.
You may apply to this program after you have completed at least one year of university-level course work that is acceptable to the Faculty of Education. More
This is a second degree program for those who have already obtained an undergraduate degree and now want to become an elementary school teacher. In addition to a degree, admission requires course work in English, Canadian studies, mathematics and laboratory science that is acceptable to the Faculty of Education. More
East Kootenay Elementary Teacher Education: Cranbook
You can take UVic’s Bachelor of Education Program (Elementary Curriculum) at the College of the Rockies in Cranbrook, BC. Entry to this program requires at least one-year of post-secondary course work. More
If you have already completed an undergraduate degree, the Bachelor of Education Post-Degree Professional Program (Elementary) may also be offered at the College of the Rockies in Cranbrook, BC. Please note that the PDPP option is available subject to enrolment. We have not been able to offer the post-degree professional program for the last three years. Information about admission requirements can be found under the on-campus program information listed above.
Become a Middle School Teacher
Our new middle years teacher education program
is designed to provide a robust middle years experience including course work geared toward middle years teaching and offering a broad range of teaching area options. This is a second degree program for those who have already obtained an undergraduate degree and now want to become a middle school teacher.
When you have completed this program, you will be be eligible for a Bachelor of Education degree and a BC teaching certificate. More
Become a Secondary School Teacher
Our secondary teacher education programs prepare you to teach one or two of the following subjects to students in grades 8 - 12: art, biology, chemistry, English, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, mathematics, music, physical education, physics, social studies, Spanish and theatre.
When you have completed either the Bachelor of Education Program (Secondary Curriculum) or the Post-Degree Professional Program (Secondary), you will be eligible for a BC teaching certificate.
You may apply to year two of this five-year program after you have completed one year of university-level course work that is acceptable to the Faculty of Education. This program is available to those wishing to teach art or music or physical education. More
Those wishing to become secondary school teachers, but who do not wish to teach physical education, must first complete an undergraduate degree before applying to this second degree program.
