The Faculty of Education currently offers community-based Masters degree programs in Counselling, Leadership Studies, and Curriculum Studies, to cohorts of professionals in education and other fields. Delivery formats and program lengths vary. There will be two summer sessions at the University, with some programs requiring three consecutive summers at the University of Victoria. Delivery is typically face-to-face, although increasingly there are offerings which are mediated by the Web. Students work on their Projects in their home community over the winter months. Cohorts are generally restricted to 18 individuals. For more detailed delivery information specific to individual programs, please click on the "Program Link" under the programs listed below.
Programs are initiated as a result of local needs communicated to the Faculty of Education by interested individuals. They provide a wonderful opportunity for learning and advancing careers in the supportive environment of colleagues with similar and diverse backgrounds.
Applicants are required to have completed a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited and recognized institution and have a grade point average of 5.00 (B) in the work of the last two years leading to the Baccalaureate degree. They also should have at least two years of work experience. Please note that individual departments often set higher entrance standards.
In all cases, prospective students are encouraged to contact us in order to add your names to our ongoing interest lists. Students will then be kept informed of future developments.
Note: Admission deadlines for community-based graduate programs vary
from those set by Graduate Admissions and Records. A graduate application can be accessed online at http://registrar.uvic.ca/grad/admission-checklist.html.
