This program has been designed to meet the needs of the profession and new teacher certification requirements set by the BC College of Teachers. Upon satisfactory completion of 24 units of course work, in three terms over a sixteen-month period, you will be eligible to apply to the BC College of Teachers for a teaching certificate. An additional specified 6.0 units of course work may be taken to complete the Bachelor of Education degree.
Students preparing to be music teachers will take a different program format. To be eligible for a music teaching area, applicants must have completed UVic’s Bachelor of Music degree with a major in secondary music education or an equivalent degree elsewhere. That program format may be viewed in the UVic Calendar.

Students wishing to obtain the Bachelor of Education degree may take 6 units of specified education course work in this term. Normally, the specified course work will be in the form of a specialty certificate in areas such as French Immersion, Special Education, Information and Communication Technology or Middle Years Language and Literacy.

Fees & Costs
Tuition for this program is based on a per-unit fee. The 2009 rate is $311.50 per unit. Additional costs will include miscellaneous fees (athletic and student society fees, bus pass, etc), books, room and board, practicum travel and other living expenses.
