This quilt is a protest about the way our indigenous forest is slowly disappearing and being replaced with quicker growing exotic species for economic reward. I have only seen one area in New Zealand where the pines have been harvested and the native flora allowed to re-generate. Those pines were a poor variety grown in the depression years.
Pines are known to alter the structure of the soil. After many harvestings will our native bush ever regenerate?
If we keep cutting our trees down will we eventually have little left. Turn to the back of the quilt for my prophecy.
