Church of Craft
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Fabrication is a collaborative artist-book/zine project implemented
by members and friends of the Montreal Church of Craft, a
community-based group that aims to encourage creativity and
self-sufficiency among its members. The Fabrication team emerged
from a shared love of fabrics and textile arts, and a fascination
with the way they intersect with political and social concerns.
The zine explores issues such as gender and textiles, globalization
politics, and "craftivism" (activism through craft).
These topics and others are addressed through short essays,
short stories, first-person accounts, craft instructions,
and visual and tactile art pieces. Art and craft methods employed
in this work include embroidery, knitting, screen printing,
photography, hand-sewing, and line drawing.
