Access I

Prerequisites Introduction Objectives Lesson Assignment Resources

Prerequisites

Students will need to use Microsoft Access software to complete this module. Other database software programs like Filemaker Pro, may be used after prior discussion with the coordinator. The Word I and Excel I modules should be completed before students begin to work on Access, so that a familiarity with text formatting and spreadsheets is obtained.

Introduction

A database is a collection of information related to a particular subject or purpose, such as recording student information, tracking customer orders, or maintaining a CD collection. They can organize and provide quick and easy access to information than what is possible with paper filing systems. In this module, students will learn how to create a database of student information, search for data, and view a report.

In this introductory module, Microsoft Access will be used to demonstrate the basic features in a database program. In addition to using the instructional material provided in this module, students are expected to take advantage of the linked resources provided at the bottom of this webpage.  You are encouraged to post any questions to the listserv or email them to the coordinator.
