Address Book and Nicknames
An address book allows users to store contact names, their email addresses, and allows room for notes. Nicknames allow users a shortcut when composing an email, so it is not necessary to go through the address book or type out a complete email address in order to send a message. A Nickname (sometimes called an alias) is an easily remembered, shorter substitute for the e-mail addresses in the entry. Nicknames can be used in place of proper e-mail addresses in the To, Cc, and Bcc fields of outgoing messages. For example, instead of typing out "compined@uvic.ca" every time you send a message, you could just type a nickname you created, like "Val."
For your assignment, you will create two profiles in your address book - one for the coordinator and one for the listserv. You will need to create nicknames for each and use them when you email your assignment to the coordinator. Click on the name of the program you are using to view the tutorial on using an address book and nicknames, then return to this page to continue with the lesson.
Now that we are getting into aspects of sending email, you can go to the next section on sending email and attaching a file.
