Backing Up Email & Attachments
Most people back up the computer files found in the "MyDocuments" folder on their hard drive, but forget about backing up their email messages and attachments. Email services like UVIC Webmail or Hotmail do not store any email files on your computer, so there is nothing to back up. If you want to save any messages from these services, you could print them or copy and paste them into a word processing document to be backed up.
If you use an email software program like Outlook, Eudora, or Netscape Mail, then if your computer ever crashes, the backed-up email files can be imported into your current email program. If you ever want to switch email programs, you can import the folders and messages into your new email program by using the "Import" feature. As long as you have access to the mail files, Import wizards make this an easy process.
