For your assignment, you will have to insert both relative and absolute
hyperlinks. These are described in the Webpage Construction I module. Be sure
to go there and learn about hyperlinks before continuing.
To create a hyperlink to the second page,
- Select the text in the second cell of the table (where the "Personal
Page" text appears)
- Go to the "Insert" menu
- Select "Hyperlink"

- The following window will appear. There are three tabs. Click on the
"New Page" tab shown below. This will create a second webpage for your
website. (Note: that a website contains one or more webpages.)
- Type in the Page Title. In the sample website, the title was "Personal
Page" but you can create your own titles according to the content of your website.
- Make the URL "personal.html" and click OK

- You will be prompted to choose the type of new page to be created. Choose
"Normal Page" and click OK.

- Return to your home page to enter a hyperlink to the third page. To do this,
go to the "Window" menu and select the file named "index.html"

- Repeat the above step to create a hyperlink to a new page called "Links"
with the URL "links.html" or substitute a title and name according to the
content you are using.
- Now that you have two new webpages that are blank, there is a shortcut you can take
to formatting them the same way as your home page. Go to your home page, then choose
"Select All" from the "Edit" menu. Your webpage should look a
different colour as it is highlighted. Next, return to the "Edit" menu and
choose "Copy." Later, you could learn to set up a template, but this will
not be covered here.
- Go to each of your new blank webpages and choose "Paste" from the
"Edit" menu. Save your changes. You can now begin to tailor the
content of each webpage and not have to worry about reformatting the table, etc. You
may have to redo the background if you want to keep it the same colour as the home page.
For white background webpages, be sure to change the background from
"default" to "white" or else it will appear gray on Macintosh
computers.
- Both of the two, new webpages need a hyperlink back to the home page. Select
the text "Home Page" in the table of one of these pages. (You will have to
repeat these steps for the second new page). Go to the "Insert" menu and
choose "Hyperlink." Select the "Open Pages" tab of the window that
appears so it looks like the following:

- A list of "open" pages will appear. These are the ones you are
working on. Select the webpage with the title of your home page (in this case, it is
"My Amazing Webpage"). At the bottom of the screen, you are informed that
the "hyperlink points to: index.html." This is correct, so click
"OK." The hyperlink to the home page should been inserted.
- You may get the following warning message:

- This is telling you that if you create a hyperlink to a file on your hard drive and
never upload that file to a web server, then the public will never be able to access it.
Since we will be uploading these files to the UVIC web server, click
"Yes."
- Make sure all of your hyperlinks are created on each webpage and remember to save
the changes you make to your webpages often.
