Email links

An email link is a hyperlink that will open your default email program and enter the linked email address in the "To" field of a new message window.  The following is an email link:

compined@uvic.ca

For your assignment, you are asked to insert an email link to your email address somewhere in your website.

Email links are often referred to as "mailto" links.  This is because the HTML code behind an email link is:

mailto:compined@uvic.ca

In most HTML Editors, there will be an option available to "Insert Hyperlink."  To insert an email link, select this option (an email link is a type of hyperlink).  There should be some option or button available that allows you to choose to link to an email address and not a URL. Go to the Help menu in your program and search for the "Email" topic for specific instructions on how to insert an email link.  You may also use one of the tutorials in the resource section if one is available for the HTML editor you are using.  When in doubt, post to the WebBoard and ask for help.  Be sure to specify the HTML editor and version you are using and what platform (Mac/Windows) you are on.

Please continue onto the next section on relative and absolute hyperlinks.
