Background

The background of a slide may be changed to a colour or a fill effect, which may be a gradient, texture, pattern, or picture.  For your assignment, you will change the background of one of your slides using a fill effect.

To change a background of a selected slide, select "Background" from the "Format" menu to get the following pop-up window:

To remove any background graphics from the design template you are using, so that it does not interfere with your new background, put a checkmark next to "Omit background graphics from master" in the window above. To select a colour or fill effect, click on the drop-down menu shown above with a blue colour selected.  The following menu will appear:

Click on one of the eight colours provided or select a custom colour by clicking on "More Colors..."  To revert to the defaulted colour after making any changes, click on "Automatic."  To apply a fill effect for a background, click on "Fill Effects..." to get the following pop-up window:

For your assignment, you are asked to apply a fill effect to one of the slides in your presentation.  Decide whether you want to insert a gradient, texture, pattern, or picture, then click on the appropriate tab in the above window.  Choose your settings then click OK.  On the Background window, click "Apply" to apply to the one slide you selected.
