Slide Layout

The slide in a PowerPoint presentation is different from a word processing document in that you cannot type directly onto the slide image.  Rather, content is entered into one or more textboxes that are arranged in various layouts.  Some of these boxes may contain graphs, tables, images, etc.  To create a new slide, select "New Slide" under the "Insert" menu or you may click on the New Slide button on the toolbar, which looks like the following:

When creating a new slide, the following "New Slide" pop-up window will ask you what layout you wish to choose for your new slide.

To change the layout of an existing slide, go to the "Format" menu and choose "Slide Layout." You may also click the Slide Layout button on the toolbar, which looks like the following:

The same pop-up window will appear, but the "OK" button will now appear as "Reapply" since you will be changing the slide layout. For your assignment, your presentation will need to include at least four different slide layouts.  Some layouts allow for the insertion of images, tables, and graphs.  These topics are covered in later sections of this module.  You may want to review that material before you select the layouts for your slides.

Please continue onto the next section on Slide Transitions.
