Prerequisites

The following modules should be completed before starting this module:

• Word Processing I
• Excel I
• Webpage Construction I

Introduction

The first Excel module covered the basic features used to make spreadsheets.  This module will begin to explore some additional features that are available and can be used to support your teaching.  These include using spreadsheets to analyze your student marks and also to access data from the net to support student investigation of basic statistics.If you have any difficulty finding these features, contact compined@uvic.ca or post to the listserv at compined@uvvm.uvic.ca for help on how to meet the requirements.

Objectives

In this module, you will create the following:

• a workbook that contains:
  • imported data
  • labels for each spreadsheet
  • a spreadsheet with split frames
  • a spreadsheet with frozen panes
  • a spreadsheet with sorted records
  • a spreadsheet with extracted records
  • a spreadsheet with a column chart
• a workbook template
• a workbook saved as a webpage

Assignment

1. Compose an email message addressed to compined@uvic.ca
2. Include your personal email address in the "Cc" field to send a copy of the message to yourself
3. The subject line of your email should be the three initials of *your* name followed by a short abbreviation of the module name. For example, Valerie Margit Irvine would use the subject line: VMIexcel2
4. Attach the following:
   - "XXXdata.xls" workbook that contains the requirements described in the Objectives above.
   - "XXXtemplate.xlt" workbook template
5. In the body of the email, provide the URL for your workbook webpage.
6. In the body of the email, identify the computer platform (Windows/Mac) and the version of Excel you used for this assignment.
7. Send the email
