Proxies
Setting Proxies
For security reasons, many organizations block access from the Internet to their networks using a firewall, which you learned about in the first module of level one. This prevents outside parties from gaining access to sensitive information. If your organization has a firewall, your browser may need to go through a "proxy server" before connecting you to the Internet. For students wishing to access the UVIC Library services from off campus, the preferences on their browser will have to be set so that they can be permitted access to the UVIC Library network.
For example, to set your browser to work with the UVIC proxy, go to the following UVIC Library proxy help page and choose the link in step 2 for the browser version you are using:
