A conference board is a place for students in this program to communicate with each other and with the instructor. It is a place to get to know your classmates, post your questions, and share resources. Students are strongly encouraged to post their questions on the conference board as opposed to email the instructor, since a question is often answered once on the conference board, where all students can review the answer, instead of being answered several times by the instructor one-on-one through email. In essence, it's our virtual classroom. Students are encouraged to help each other on this board. Please don't hesitate to offer a solution to someone's problem. The instructor will be moderating this board and offering support as well. Students are likely to get faster support through the conference board than through email to the instructor.
To access the board, go
to http://webboard.uvic.ca, select "Computers
in Education" from the drop-down list, and enter a Netlink ID and password.
You must have session level cookies enabled for the board to function properly.
Check the troubleshoot link above if you have any problems. If you have any questions
about the basic use of WebBoard, you can visit the following site:
http://web2.uvcs.uvic.ca/onlinehelp/HELP.CFM?Cat_ID=2
The board is open, so anyone with a Netlink ID can access it, however these new users will only be able to view the "Getting Started" conference. Once you log on, please email me to request to be added to the full list of conferences. Please be aware that the default email address for users is an anonymous one - wbanon@uvic.ca. This is to protect privacy. If users wish to enter their correct email address, they must click on More... from within WebBoard and then click Edit Your Profile.
Please post your messages in the appropriate conference. If you just want to introduce yourself or test out posting messages, please use the "Cafe" conference. Please keep in mind that you must use netetiquette in your communications. Those users who misuse the board will be removed from the user list.
