On behalf of the University of Victoria, I welcome your interest in our Professional Specialization Certificate in School Management and Leadership. We know that throughout British Columbia there will be a need for large numbers of new school administrators in the coming years. The University of Victoria, through its Faculty of Education, is pleased to be able to offer this new credential for prospective school leaders. We hope that many of you will make use of this opportunity to continue on with further graduate studies as well.

Dr. Riecken Message from Dr. Ted Riecken, Dean, Faculty of Education

We welcome your interest in the Graduate Specialization Certificate in School Management and Leadership (CSML) Program. This exciting new initiative, which we have designed to provide flexible and timely opportunities, is intended for those interested in school leadership and who aspire to become school leaders.  This program will provide access to cutting-edge policies and practices within a strong academic environment.  It will do so making use of a contemporary combination of face-to-face teaching and learning, self-directed learning, mentorship and distance education.  The program makes use of University of Victoria faculty, key resource people in school districts and invited guests with experiences from other parts of British Columbia, Canada and the world.

Catherine McGregorMessage from Dr. Catherine McGregor, CSML Academic Coordinator

As the current Academic Coordinator for the Professional Certificate in School Management and Leadership (CSML) it is my pleasure to welcome you to this homepage and to the University of Victoria. While still a relatively new program, CSML is highly regarded by professionals in the field with its focus on professional knowledge building and leadership inquiry as foundational principles. In particular, the mentorship component provides a field based experience not offered in other graduate programs. Our current and former students tell us that this feature has enabled them to engage in rich, deep, ethically focused and meaningful leadership conversations, providing a solid foundation for becoming dynamic, innovative and responsive school leaders.

We have assembled a very strong instructional team which has been supported by input from our Advisory and Program Steering committees, and other expert education practitioners. We invite you to join us in a professional learning journey focused on becoming the best teacher-leader you can be!
