Information for Students in a Teacher Education Program

To help you, we’ve gathered here the forms and timetables, reports and handbooks and useful links you need as an elementary or secondary teacher education student. We will also post announcements on this page so be sure to return regularly.

If you have any questions about your program, courses or timetable, consult the Faculty of Education Advising Centre.

If you have questions about your field experience or practicum, consult the Field Experience Office.

Criminal Record Check

All students upon entering any teacher education program at UVic must do a Criminal Record Check through the Criminal Records Review Program.

  • Newly admitted students will be provided with more information about the Criminal Record Check at their orientation meeting in 2009.

  • Students enrolled in the five-year Bachelor of Education (Secondary Curriculum) program must do a Criminal Record Check before taking the ED-P 498 practicum in spring 2010. Information about the Criminal Record Check will be provided in the ED-P 498 seminar in January.

E-Portfolio

Every student in the elementary and secondary teacher education programs will be responsible to produce an e-portfolio prior to completion of the program.  The e-portfolio will be housed in the seminar classes. Attached to each seminar will be an expectation checkpoint which the seminar leaders will monitor. If a student does not have their e-portfolio expectations met, they will not proceed with the practicum. In the event that the e-portfolio is not completed to expectations by the end of the program, a failing grade will be given for the seminar and no exit interview will be granted. The student teacher’s name will not go forward for certification until the e-portfolio is complete and an exit interview has been done.
