Community-Based Graduate Programs

The Faculty of Education currently offers community-based Masters degree programs in Counselling, Curriculum Studies, Early Childhood Education, and Leadership Studies, to cohorts of professionals in education and other fields. These programs are two years long and are normally delivered in local communities during the Winter and Spring sessions. There is usually one summer session at the University. In some Counselling programs course work is completed over three consecutive summers at the University of Victoria, and two winter terms in their home community. Cohorts are restricted to 18 individuals. Delivery is typically face-to-face, although increasingly there are offerings which are mediated by the Web.

Programs are initiated as a result of local needs communicated to the Faculty of Education by interested individuals. They provide a wonderful opportunity for learning and advancing careers in the supportive environment of colleagues with similar and diverse backgrounds.

Applicants are required to have completed a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited and recognized institution and have a grade point average of 5.00 (B) in the work of the last two years leading to the Baccalaureate degree. They also should have at least two years of work experience.

In all cases, prospective students are encouraged to contact us in order to add your names to our ongoing interest lists. Students will then be kept informed of future developments.

Please note: Admission deadlines for community-based graduate programs vary from those set by Graduate Admissions and Records.
