The brightest object in the night sky, after the moon. Venus is the second planet from the sun. It rotates from East to West, which is opposite to most of the other planets and moons. It is roughly the same size as Earth but is very different. Venus is like a scorching desert with a temperature of 900 degrees(F). It is the hottest planet in the Solar System.

Venus has many large craters but no small ones. That is because the atmosphere is so dense that it stops smaller meteors before they can hit the surface to create a crater. Due to this dense atmosphere it is not possible for anything to live on it.

Some people may know it as the Morning Star or the Evening Star because it shines so brightly at dawn and dusk.

Venus was named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty.
