Intercultural E-mail Class Connection - A free service helping teachers and classes get connected with people in other countries and cultures for e-mail classroom pen-pal and project exchanges. This page assists you in the "how-to's" of finding a class to join with. As well, it gives you links to resources on setting up your classroom with internet.
Voices of Youth - This link has three main categories. The Meeting Place, is a topic which allows students to share ideas about important world issues. For example, children and work and children's rights are discussed. Secondly, there is the Learning Place where students take a quiz to learn, or identify what is missing from the pictures on world issues. This section also includes a live chat. Finally there is a link for The Teachers' Place, where teachers (and others) can discuss global education and online learning.
Multicultural Awareness Activities- A site which goes through four activities as a way of introducing multiculturalism in the classroom. the lesson are in a specific order to develop understanding and ideas. The lessons are: Getting started - respect exercise; Knowing the Community - ethnicity exercises; Understanding Prejudice and Discrimination; and Defining Terms - such as prejudice, sexism, discrimination, racism, and homophobia. This site includes listservs to join, a discussion board, and a teacher's corner. The link to writers initial thoughts is important as it gives a great definition of multicultural education and role it should play in schools.
Multicultural Books- This site come in handy when you are in a panic and are in need of a specific book to express some ideas or share a culture. You are able to order or you may search else where now that you have a title. This Booklink lists teacher resources, children's literature and adult fiction and non-fiction as well. A brief description of the books are given to assist in your selection. The costs are reasonable as the books are all soft cover.
Multicultural Madness- A site that helps teachers and students adapt and learn to live in a culturally diverse world. It focuses on the role technology plays with the classroom to access information. This site links the Internet with global challenges. Multicultural Madness lists sites on the web on Multicultural K-12 Resources, Becoming Culturally Aware, Talking About Tolerance and Lesson Plans - integrating Internet activities into Multicultural Education.
Teaching Diversity - This page gives teaching tips on diversity. It focuses on the idea of not only teaching about multiculturalism but moreover, having a safe environment for the students, their peers and the teacher. These tips address diversity/multi-cultural issues for all class formats; for instance, lecture or discussion.
