About the School

WELCOME
to the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education (EPHE).   We are an academic department within the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria.  Our mission is to advance knowledge and to prepare professionals in the area of physical activity and health through teaching, research and service.

Get Smart, Get Active Tour - follow Tyler Duncan, currently studying toward a BEd in Secondary Physical Education, as he rides his bicycle across Canada to focus attention on the importance of daily physical activity.

See Them Run - follow Erin van Wiltenburg, currently in the BEd Secondary Physical Education teaching program as she and her partner run across Africa this summer, 2008.  All proceeds raised will aid educational programs in Namibia, Zambia, and Tanzania—the three countries SEE-THEM-RUN will go through. 

2008 Undergraduate Awards

Health, wellness and active living are issues critical to our society, issues that cross many disciplines. Our interdisciplinary undergraduate programs prepare students for a wide variety of careers in areas as diverse as Medicine, Recreation, Wellness and Health Promotion, Physiotherapy, High School PE Teaching, Coaching, Athletic Therapy (Trainer), Chiropractic Medicine, Leadership and Administration in public, not-for-profit sectors, and Graduate Study (coaching studies, kinesiology, physical education, leisure service administration).

Bachelor of Science, Kinesiology

The BSc program prepares students to thrive in the growing field of wellness and exercise training. Students study human movement in sport, recreation or rehabilitative settings. Others go on to further studies in health related areas such as, medicine, physical, occupational, chiropractic or massage therapy. Students in the cooperative education program actively apply their learning in health, wellness, and exercise settings.

Bachelor of Arts, Recreation & Health Education

The BA program prepares students to become leaders in the growing fields of recreation, wellness, and health promotion. Students develop strong management and planning skills and apply those principles to build community and instituting positive social change through health, wellness and physical activity. Students enhance their learning through involvement in cooperative education experiences.

Bachelor of Education, Physical Education Teaching

The BEd program prepares students for the essential role of teaching physical education in secondary schools. This program helps students develop the critical skills needed to become leaders and advocates for physical, health and wellness education in our schools. Graduates are equipped to provide high quality programs and to teach youth the importance and benefits of healthy lifestyles.

Graduate Programs (PhD, MA, MALSA, M ED, MSc,)

The School of Exercise Science, Health and Physical Education offers a wide range of graduate degrees that build on issues and questions related to human movement, exercise science, physical activity, leadership, coaching, teaching and health promotion. Built on the strong and diverse research programs conducted by the faculty, our graduate programs address issues important to the quality of life for individuals and communities.
