Laura initially became interested in obesity while completing a health course during hery undergraduate degree at the University of Waterloo. Her research interests emerged from a socio-ecological perspective and can be described broadly as population health promotion research. Her current focus is childhood obesity, researching policy and environmental interventions that predispose, enable or reinforce physical activity and healthy eating. She works under the supervision of Dr. PJ Naylor in the Applied Physical Activity and Health Promotion Research Unit at the University of Victoria. Laura is the University of Victoria student and new professionals representative for the Canadian Obesity Network. Laura has a passion for obesity research and hopes that the work that she does can help decrease the chance that children and adolescents in Canada will become obese, and promote health and wellness to children. Laura looks forward to a long career in the field and working with others who share the same passion.  She is involved with the community on many different levels. Laura is a board member on the ProMotion steering committee which promotes physical activity to young females. She is a member of the Victoria Transit Committee, which promotes the use of public transportation, and She is also a Skate Canada official, and spend many cold weekends in arenas across the province. When Laura is not busy with those things she enjoy spending time with her family and friends, playing squash, traveling, and doing anything outside and enjoying the beautiful coast of Vancouver Island.
