PJ Naylor is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Physical Education at the University of Victoria and the Co-Principal Investigator of the Action Schools! BC (AS! BC) Dissemination trial, that is funded by CIHR and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. From 1994-2004 Dr. Naylor was a Consultant for the Physical Activity Unit of the BC Ministry of Health and the Principal Investigator of the BC Heart Health Dissemination Research Project. Her PhD research examined the impact of psycho-social intervention strategies on exercise adherence in obese women. After completing her PhD she was an Assistant Professor with the Exercise and Health Research Unit at the University of Bristol, England (1991-1994). Dr. Naylor’s current research interests are in socio-ecological approaches to obesity prevention (focusing mostly on children and youth), building and measuring organizational and community capacity, mobilizing communities for action on health and knowledge exchange (facilitating the adoption and utilization of evidence-based approaches). Projects that Dr. Naylor is currently involved with that relate to obesity prevention include: AS! BC, BC School Fruit and Vegetable Snack Pilot Program, Municipal Recreation Food Environment Audit Tool project (MRFEAT) and Healthy Opportunities for Preschoolers (HOP – a resource and workshop for families and childcare providers). Dr. Naylor is also on the Board of the newly founded Childhood Obesity Foundation of BC. |
