BA Major in Recreation & Health Education- Cooperative Education

 

The Recreation & Health Education program is an interdisciplinary program and prepares students to enter the fields of recreation, wellness and health promotion leadership and administration primarily in the public not-for-profit sectors. It provides preparation in the planning, implementation, evaluation and supervision of recreation, leisure, fitness, wellness and health promotion policies and programs that support social changes.

The Recreation & Health Education program is available only on a Cooperative Education model. This is a minimum four and a half year program which combines academic study on campus with alternating periods of work in a variety of agencies. New students enter the Faculties of Humanities, Social Science or Science in Year One and take the prerequisite courses and apply by January 31 of their first year to transfer into the Faculty of Education, Recreation & Health Education program for their second year. Applications will be considered from those who have completed or will have completed by the end of April (final grades by May 31):

  • at least 12 units of credit, including 3 units of English
  • an interview by the School of Ex Scie, Phys & Health Ed
  • academic preparation which includes the following:
    • EPHE 143 .....1.5 units
    • a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 (on a 9-point scale) on the most recent session. For students currently registered in less than 12 units the GPA will be determined by using a combination of the GPA achieved in the current session and the GPA from the previous session applied to the number of units required to reach 12 units.
